Beznau nuclear power plant also shuts down second reactor due to heat

The Beznau nuclear power plant in the Swiss canton of Aargau is now being completely shut down due to the heat. The second reactor block was also shut down on Wednesday evening, the operating company Axpo announced on Thursday. One of the two reactors had already been shut down previously, and the second block was initially running at 50 percent capacity.

The reason for the shutdown is the high water temperature of the Aare River, Axpo explained. The reactors are cooled with water. The measure is intended to protect the Aare's flora and fauna from excessive pollution.
