Eco Stor launches large-scale battery storage with 103 megawatts

This would theoretically supply approximately 170,000 multi-person households with renewable electricity for two hours each. The facility consists of 64 containers with lithium batteries and 32 containers for inverters and transformers. The social-ecological GLS Bank is financing this pioneering project in Northern Germany. "Their financing and their deep understanding of pioneering projects like our large-scale battery storage systems enable us to accelerate the transformation and actively shape the energy transition," says Georg Gallmetzer, Managing Director of Eco Stor.
How the mega storage facility will earn moneyDuring periods of cheap electricity, typically when there is an oversupply of renewable energy, the battery storage system charges. During periods of scarcity, typically during periods of calm winds and darkness, the electricity fed into the grid provides a reliable and affordable power supply.
The storage facility near the Danish border will charge surplus wind and solar power twice a day via the neighboring substation and feed this green electricity back into the grid during the morning and evening peaks of electricity demand. The mega-storage facility will be linked in real time to the marketplaces where green electricity from solar and wind is offered. (nhp)
