MAN Energy Solutions becomes Everllence

The large engine manufacturer MAN Energy Solutions has abandoned its historic name and will henceforth be called Everllence. The German company, which has around 15,000 employees worldwide, justified this by stating that it no longer just builds engines and turbomachinery, but is also a provider of large-scale heat pumps and other climate-friendly technology. "We want to express this with our new name Everllence," said CEO Uwe Lauber.
The artificial name Everllence is composed of the English terms “ever” and “excellence”.
Thus, the company's headquarters in Augsburg will no longer be represented by the name. The abbreviation MAN stands for Maschinenfabrik Augsburg-Nürnberg, founded more than 100 years ago. However, the name MAN remains a well-known trademark thanks to the bus and truck manufacturer of the same name based in Munich.
Diesel was removed from the company name in 2018
A few years ago, Everllence had already dropped the name Diesel from its name – for a long time, the company had previously operated as MAN Diesel & Turbo. This happened despite the fact that the company, together with inventor Rudolf Diesel, built the world's first diesel engine at the end of the 19th century and thus played a key role in the spread of the internal combustion engine in the 20th century. However, by 2018, the company no longer considered the name Diesel sustainable.
The group has previously been known primarily for its large engines for cargo ships and power plants. In the future, the company plans to expand its activities with hydrogen technology.
