'Bizkaia Repara' wins the European award for the best waste prevention initiative

Bilbao, June 12 (EFE).- The Provincial Council of Bizkaia has won first prize in the public administration category at the European Week for Waste Reduction (EWWR) Awards, held in Leeuwarden, the Netherlands, with its "Bizkaia Repara" initiative to promote the repair of objects.

According to the regional institution, the initiative was selected from among more than 12,700 initiatives submitted across Europe.

The award-winning project, promoted by the Provincial Council of Bizkaia, promotes a sustainable consumption model through discount vouchers for product repairs in local businesses, thus supporting the circular economy and combating waste.

According to the Provincial Council, the campaign, recognized for its social, economic, and environmental impact, has allowed thousands of Biscayans to extend the useful life of their objects, from clothing and footwear to appliances and furniture, contributing to a more responsible use of resources.
