Color, sea, life and light, Boa Mistura's inspiration for connecting Santander to its port

Santander, June 24 (EFE).- Connecting Santander with its port through art. This is the challenge facing Boa Mistura, which has designed three projects to intervene in port facilities. Citizens will have to choose from these projects. Inspired by the sea, the life and soul of this city, and filled with color, like all the works of this artistic collective.
With twenty years of collaborative work under their belts, this group of Madrid-based graffiti artists is taking on the challenge of intervening in the port of a major city for the first time, thanks to a project led by Tiempo de Arte and Cantabria Labs.
The project will involve silos measuring nearly 26 meters high and 14 meters in diameter. The final project will be chosen by the people of Santander from among the three that Boa Mistura presented this Tuesday in the Cantabrian capital after a process of dialogue with citizens, explained Pablo Ferreiro, a member of the group, in an interview with EFE.
Bring the port closer"Our creative proposals always start with a word," says Ferreiro, who points out that the idea is to bring the port closer, which, although visible from the city, is actually more than a kilometer away.
To this end, they have taken a "very respectful approach" by asking the people of Santander for their "key words," which express the ideas they would use in the project and which represent their feelings about the city.
From there came the word 'life' as a search for personal essence, the 'sea' so present in Santander, and the 'light', which are what give life to these three colorful proposals from Boa Mistura.
Color and geometry"Our obsession is the color and geometry generated by typefaces," explains Ferreiro, who points out that these were the ingredients they drew their conclusions for the three proposals. "Many of the stories they told us had to do with the sea," he says.
The first two occupy four silos and bear the word 'soul', one of them with a "much more kinetic graphic approach" that represents the sea "in constant movement and marks a bit of the rhythms of the city."
The third, with the word "light," will color three silos, with a more horizontal design reflecting the sea in the Bay of Santander. "It's like a kind of mirror on the ground that reflects all the light," explains the artist.
"We've been playing with the colors of the sea, as well as the horizon and the mountains in the background," concludes Pablo Ferreiro. Voting begins
After the proposals are submitted, the project will be voted on by the people of Santander to select the final project, which will begin to be implemented at the port in September.
Voting can be done through the project's website, and the idea is for citizens to be able to participate in the artistic work when it launches in a few months, concludes the Boa Mistura member. EFE fb
