Deseucaliptadoras Brigades, the environmental figure of the week in #SustainablePlanet

Madrid, May 29 (EFEverde).- The #EnvironmentalPerson of the week in our weekly Sustainable Planet newsletter is the De-Eucalyptus Brigades , a growing grassroots movement in Galicia. Neighbors and volunteers are organizing to eliminate eucalyptus trees and return native forests to the rural landscape, with the goal of creating more resilient environments in the face of fire, climate change, and biodiversity loss. High seas, oceans and mining moratoriumEmmanuel Macron's announcement stands out: the UN agreement for the protection of the high seas will enter into force in 2026. In addition, Spain is adding five new marine protected areas and will contribute €8.5 million to the Mediterranean Fund .
At the same time, 24 countries are calling for a global moratorium on deep-sea mining , and the EU is launching a European Pact for the Oceans , with ambitious goals for restoration, sustainable fishing, and €1 billion in investment.
