"Our heritage is threatened everywhere": Stéphane Bern's alarm call regarding the dangers of climate change on historic sites

French history faces the challenge of climate change. Radio and television host Stéphane Bern sounded the alarm on Friday, August 1st, on BFMTV about the risks facing French monuments and historic sites in the face of climate change.
"Our heritage is threatened everywhere. Not only by the madness of human destruction, but now by erosion and climate change," Stéphane Bern told us on our channel.
Between the Château de Chenonceaux, whose stone is "eroded by the Cher", Fort Boyard , which is in danger of collapsing due to seawater erosion, and the forest of the Château de Chambort, which is "threatened" due to "drought problems", many French jewels are now under threat.
"These are UNESCO World Heritage sites and we are seeing them gradually decline," says Stéphane Bern.
The presenter of the show Secrets d'histoire calls for not standing still in the face of these climatic hazards and praises the work of the Heritage Lottery which, with the "Mission Bern", the heritage preservation mission entrusted to Stéphane Bern, has made it possible "in seven and a half years" to collect "320 million euros" and "save 1,000 sites" across France.
Stéphane Bern believes that the French are "aware" of the environmental risks to their heritage and believes that "solutions can be found, but they are costly."
"It's not a cost, it's an investment. We don't want tourists who visit our sites to visit ruins, but monuments in perfect condition," the television host said.
While he welcomes the authorities' "vigilance" regarding the state of the nation's heritage, Stéphane Bern calls for "international awareness" of the effects of climate change. He also advocates the creation of an "international fund" for heritage preservation.
