Bill McKibben is one of the most distinguished veterans of the climate cause. A tireless journalist and activist, he took up the issue of "global warming" in the late 1980s, even before the first IPCC report, when climatologist James Hansen had just been questioned by the US Congress.
Since then, he's been involved in every fight: he co-founded 350.org, fought the Keystone XL pipeline, protested, organized, received death threats, was imprisoned, and received the "alternative Nobel Prize."
