On the menu for Wednesday, September 10: coleslaw, soy-tomato-onion stew , squash puree, sautéed potatoes, and crepes for dessert. "Yesterday [Tuesday], we looked at what we had in stock and decided what we could do with it," explains Matthieu (1). The thirty-year-old is one of a dozen people who met at 7 a.m. to finish the preparations started the day before at Ile Egalité, a self-managed solidarity center in Villeurbanne, on the outskirts of Lyon, where a few tables serve as an improvised kitchen.

None of them "knew each other before." Matthieu got involved to protest "against Macron's dictatorship, so that things change. " Only "a large, self-organized popular movement to make decisions from the bottom up," like the Citizens' Climate Convention, could "ensure everyone's basic needs," believes the tall, dark-haired man.
