A new heat record set in Montreal on Sunday

The extreme heat in Montreal on Sunday was so high that a temperature record was broken.

The mercury reached 34°C, according to Environment Canada data, making it the hottest day ever recorded for July 6 in the city.

The previous record of 33.6°C was set in 2010.

A new heat record was also set in Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu on Sunday, where it reached 33.7°C, 0.6°C higher than the previous record also set in 2010.

In addition to the high temperatures, humidity was also a factor, causing the humidex to rise to 40, particularly in Montreal.

However, it was an isolated warm day, as temperatures closer to seasonal norms already returned on Monday.

The week is expected to continue in this direction with maximum temperatures below 30°C and nights where the mercury will drop below 20°C, according to Environment Canada.
