Google limits the battery of its Pixel 6a smartphones

Shorter battery life to prevent overheating. Starting Tuesday, July 8, the battery life of Pixel 6a smartphones may be limited, announced their manufacturer, Google, in a warning notice published six days earlier. Specifically, a software update will significantly shorten their battery life and charging speed.

Not all Pixel 6a devices are affected, as Google has released a questionnaire to determine if your phone is affected. And for those who are unlucky enough, the throttling won't necessarily occur immediately: it will kick in after 400 full charge cycles, which we estimate takes about 18 to 30 months. A warning will appear on the smartphone indicating that the battery is approaching the milestone when it reaches 375 charges.

In its warning notice, Google suggests that a battery replacement could be offered to affected French customers, provided their mobile is in good condition and the battery stock has not run out. When contacted by Le Monde , the American company did not confirm this possibility, nor did it specify the date on which this measure would come into effect. Alternatively, affected Pixel 6a owners could request financial compensation or fall back on a voucher valid for the purchase of a new Google smartphone.
