In Aude, the French department most affected by the fires in July, the fauna and flora were severely affected.

As far as the eye can see, blackened landscapes bristling with the skeletons of trees still standing, devitalized by the flames. In Aude, 2,710 hectares (ha) were left silent during the summer. This is the department that has recorded the largest area covered by fires in France since the start of the summer season, due to four major fires since June 29, and which accounts for more than a tenth of the damage recorded across the entire country. The whole of France experienced a start to the summer marked by flames, with the destruction of 23,471 ha of vegetation, more than twice the annual average (10,119 ha) measured between 2006 and 2024.
In addition to the Narbonne-Bages region, which was devastated on July 7 and 8 by the second largest fire in the Aude region since 1950, there is now the Sigean area, where 500 hectares burned on July 26 and 27. On July 5, there was the Douzens fire, which saw 360 hectares of vegetation disappear; and the one that opened the summer on June 29, burning 360 hectares due to embers escaping from a poorly extinguished barbecue, transported in a trailer on the highway.
