La Ricamarie. Ondaine River: Four years after the work, biological diversity is improving.

Long constrained, artificialized, and largely underground, the Ondaine has been brought back into the open air over approximately 600 meters, between the Duché square, upstream of the canal bridge which has been preserved up to the driving license examination center, rue Rémi Moïse.
"We removed 350 meters of galleries downstream from a watercourse that flowed into a concrete channel 4 meters wide and 3 meters high, and an additional 120 meters upstream to redesign a watercourse with all the biodiversity associated with rivers," explains Jérôme Boutigny, project manager at Saint-Etienne Métropole (SEM).
"It was also about renaturing the river."The large-scale development work (€3.8 million included in the river contract signed between SEM and the State) lasted two years and was completed in the summer of 2021. It was dictated above all by the desire to prevent flood risks, in particular by adjusting the watercourse to the hydraulic gauge...
