Le Pont (Switzerland). To find some coolness this summer, head to Lake Joux

In summer, we seek escape from three things: the stifling heat, the mosquitoes, and the world. As the paradox is well known, everyone wants to travel, but no one wants to cross paths with others. In this game, Lake Joux, the pearl of the Vaudois Jura, wins the day . Nestled at an altitude of 1,004 meters, surrounded by spruce forests and bordered by small, peaceful villages, this body of water is the largest of the Jura lakes. And one of the most pleasant to experience in summer.
Far from the hustle and bustle of everyday life , the Vallée de Joux offers a true setting for escape, relaxation, and freshness. "It's the first time we've come here and we're not disappointed, it's really calm and well designed for vacationers," confides a retired couple from Italy who came with their grandchildren. Swimming enthusiasts can enjoy several freely accessible beaches, spread out along the shores of the lake. Those of the Abbaye, the Pont, or the Bioux are particularly appreciated for their accessibility, their grassy and shaded areas, as well as for the quality of the water which easily reaches 22 to 24 °C in July. At Altitude 1004, the Bioux nautical base, it is possible to rent a paddleboard, a pedal boat or a canoe, take a sailing course or simply settle down in the shade of a tree overlooking the French Jura.

The bravest will venture to Rocheray, where the sports facilities are up a notch . There, you can practice wakeboarding, water skiing, and even wakesurfing. And for group shots, the leisure center also offers towed buoy races. The equipment is new, the instructors are local, and the atmosphere remains relaxed despite the dynamism of the place. "It's the first time we've come here and it's really rare to find a place this complete, but not crowded with people," emphasized two friends in a boat on the tour of the lake.
For a nature break, head to Pointe de Sable, a wilder beach at the end of the lake, accessible on foot from Le Lieu. Wooden tables, crystal-clear water, and no motors: peace and quiet reign supreme. And if you feel like escaping the hustle and bustle, head to Lac Brenet, near Les Charbonnières. Smaller and more secluded, it's perfect for picnics and quiet swimming. Finally, for a change of scenery, you can also embark on a mini-cruise between Le Pont and Le Rocheray, or cycle the 23 km loop of the lake. Whether you're here with family, a partner, or friends, Lac de Joux is the perfect refuge from the heatwave. Even the thermometer says so.
