Le Relais resumes collecting second-hand clothing after the announcement of an increase in the remuneration of sorting operators

The French will once again be able to drop off their used clothing, shoes, and household linens in the 22,300 Le Relais containers located across France. This federation of textile and footwear sorting, reuse, and recycling companies announced that it would resume its collections on Thursday, July 24, after a ten-day suspension. This move was welcomed with relief by local authorities, which have been forced to deal with the accumulation of clothing around the bins in the meantime.
To raise awareness of its financial situation, which was on the verge of cessation of payments, Le Relais France suspended collection on July 15. “We are not going to let ourselves die without saying anything , Emmanuel Pilloy, its president, said at the time, indicating that 3,000 jobs were threatened, including 2,000 in France. On the same day, some of its local branches had scattered tons of laundry in the early hours of the morning in front of Decathlon or Kiabi stores near Nantes, Nancy or Abbeville (Somme) to better identify those responsible for their difficulties.
This is because the financing of the clothing, footwear and household linen recycling sector has been facing a serious crisis for the past year, linked to the rise of ultra-fast fashion.
