Lyon Metropolis: 16,700 tonnes of compost have been produced since 2021

Between 2021 and 2024, 16,700 tonnes of compost were produced and partly reinjected into the soil of the Lyon metropolitan area.
With its 2,632 collection points, 33,500 individual composters, and 1,000 shared composting sites, the Lyon Metropolitan Area has made waste collection a priority. A gamble that seems to be paying off for the environmental community, as between 2021 and 2024, 16,700 tons of compost were produced, some of which was reinjected into the region's soil.

In a press release issued Friday, August 22, the Lyon Metropolitan Area also indicated that 76% of this compost is sold within the metropolitan area or within a radius of less than 50 kilometers. In detail, 54% goes to farmers at low prices, 38% to landscaping companies, and 8% to individuals, municipalities, or public works companies.
In partnership with the Rhône Chamber of Agriculture, ISARA, CTIFL, and the Technical Office of Market Gardeners, several farms in eastern Lyon and the Saône Valley have been testing the fertilizing value of this compost since 2023, the Lyon Metropolis also indicates. The process is expected to continue until 2026.
