Lyon. Confluence: Summer 2027, swimming in the Darse should be possible

The future facility could be open from June to September and could accommodate 500 to 800 people, with "pricing conditions equivalent to those of swimming pools in Lyon."
In 2027, you will be able to swim in the Darse de Confluence, in the 2nd arrondissement of Lyon.
This is one of 21 potential sites identified for whitewater swimming in the Lyon metropolitan area. Bruno Bernard presented the results of a swimmability study this Tuesday.

Faced with hot summers and urban heat islands, swimming spots are sought after and desired by the population, as evidenced by the numerous swimming spots observed despite the bans. After an initial experiment in June 2024 , the Metropolis conducted a partnership study to explore potential swimming sites in the Rhône and Saône rivers with regard to constraints (water quality, safety, etc.), the different characteristics of the sites (biodiversity, etc.) and compatibility with other river uses (navigation, etc.). They were classified into 3 categories according to the anticipated level of constraints: medium, high, very high.
Opening in 2027Lyon Mayor Grégory Doucet announced on Tuesday that a pool will be created in the Darse de Confluence: "Being able to swim in the Saône in 2027 is extremely exciting."

The estimated budget is €1.5 million to €2 million. "This is much less expensive than an investment of €15 million to €20 million for a swimming pool," the mayor of Lyon explained.
Significant studies and monitoring of water quality will be carried out this summer and the following summer.

Where will residents be able to swim in the coming years, among the twenty or so potential sites identified? The question remains unanswered. Work is underway with the municipalities.
Only 5 sites currently display an average level of constraint: the Darse de Confluence, the Old Lock of Caluire-et-Cuire, Grand Large in Meyzieu, the Parc des Berges and the Gerland Park in the 7th arrondissement of Lyon.
