My Beautiful Village. Chèvremont, a small town that has everything a large town has.

Barely 6 km from Belfort, Chèvremont offers its 1,600 residents a living environment worthy of larger towns. "We have a real village heart," insists the mayor, Jean-Paul Moutarlier, elected since 2014. "All services are located in the same geographical area, around the town hall and the church. There is a primary and nursery school, a private school and middle school (La Providence), a daycare, a teen club, after-school activities, the Chougalante hall for community activities..."
Since April, a sports area open to all generations has been set up behind the school. "There are games for the little ones, ping-pong tables, a pétanque court, and a city stadium for team sports."
By the fall, new work will begin across from the daycare center, in the building next to the school. "We're going to renovate the old classrooms and transform them into a 115 m² library. The opening is scheduled for early next year."
Beautifying the town also includes the cemetery, located behind the church. "In 2024, we reclaimed a third of the abandoned plots, after a four-year administrative process, to give potential descendants time to come forward. The ancient monuments were placed at the entrance to showcase them. The cemetery is also a part of our history."
The history of Chèvremont , that of sauerkraut, is unfortunately tending to fade away. "It was a tradition, there were several sauerkraut factories in the town and many cabbage fields around. The last factory closed in the 90s. Cabbage cultivation continues, but they are processed in Chavannes-les-Grands ."
Chèvremont's agricultural past is still evident in the name of the women's soccer team, Les Choucroutières . The community network is diverse. In addition to the sports association, Pleine Forme offers gymnastics, and Mon Village offers a wide range of activities. There is also a parents' association, hunting, fishing, and an equestrian center.
The music school, an annex of the Dutilleux Conservatory, "allows beginners to learn the basics in their own town, before moving to Belfort when they are older."
Equipped with the main local shopsThe village has all the main local shops: a butcher, bakery, tobacconist, hairdresser, market gardener, and even a restaurant. Not to mention the Bessoncourt shopping area, two kilometers away. On the medical side, Chèvremont has a pharmacy and a nursing practice. "We are looking for a doctor," adds the mayor.
The main heritage site is the Church of the Holy Cross, built by Jean-Baptiste Kléber between 1784 and 1787. The main façade, bell tower, and peristyle have been listed as historic monuments since 1992. "Major work has been carried out on the weakened framework and ceiling. We received €179,000 in aid from the Stéphane Bern Foundation for a project costing €320,000."
Securing the town is a key issue for the municipality. "Chicanes have been installed to reduce speed on straight roads, as well as a "chaussidoux" with a cycle path on Rue de Pérouse. This year, we will also be improving the downtown area, near the town hall, by widening the sidewalk."
