Saint-Louis. Citizens' Day: Rue de Hésingue redeveloped at the initiative of a local resident

On Saturday, May 24, numerous local initiatives will be taking place as part of Citizens' Day. Two events will be highlighted in Saint-Louis: the development of Rue de Hésingue for greater pedestrian and cyclist safety, a project led by a local resident, and a stenciled plant mural at the Jardins de Francette shed.

Rue de Hésingue in Saint-Louis has been transformed in recent years. Construction has sprung up, particularly in the Concorde district, and with it, increased traffic on the street. This observation was shared by local resident Paola Pfenninger in 2018. "I spoke with local residents at the time, and we noticed the same thing: Rue de Hésingue has become a busy street. There's only a mini-sidewalk on one side, nothing on the other. Many vehicles park there, and more and more bicycles are riding there."

The question of the safety of pedestrians and cyclists, children and adults, then arose. "We approached the municipality to request a change to make the street safer," explains Paola Pfenninger. A subsequent project was approved by the mayor at the time, Jean-Marie Zoellé, who enhanced it with vegetation.

A calming zone

"We just had to wait until all the new construction was finished," says the local resident.
