In Nice, the ocean took center stage. The third United Nations Ocean Conference (UNOC) concluded on June 13. Following a scientific congress and a forum dedicated to the blue economy and finance, member states had been meeting in Nice (Alpes-Maritimes) since June 9. The summit triggered "a positive dynamic" for the ocean, according to Li Junhua, secretary-general of this UN conference.
France is proud of its positive results: "We wanted to take the gamble of transformative change, and ensure that we can never go backwards again," declared the President's special envoy and ambassador for the poles, Olivier Poivre d'Arvor, who hailed "an important moment for the ocean." In fact, this summit mobilized: 175 United Nations member states, 64 heads of state and government and 12,000 delegates.
More than 100,000 people visited La Baleine, the public space dedicated to civil society.
