The Rhône-Alpes region, the Mediterranean region and Corsica are still experiencing intense heat, with 17 departments on orange heatwave alert until Friday.

The departments that remain under orange alert are Rhône, Haute-Savoie, Savoie, Isère, Drôme, Ardèche, Vaucluse, Gard, Alpes-de-Haute-Provence, Alpes-Maritimes, Var, Bouches-du-Rhône, Hérault, Aude, Pyrénées-Orientales and the two departments of Corsica.
Up to 38°C"On Thursday and Friday, the very high temperatures will gradually be restricted to the southeastern quarter of France, where maximum temperatures will still reach 32 to 36°C, and even occasionally reach 38°C," the weather service said in its latest bulletin. "At the end of the night, temperatures dropped significantly below 20°C in the northwestern half of the country, while they are still often between 20 and 25°C in the plains south of the La Rochelle-Strasbourg line," added Météo-France.
Most of the country experienced the last day of a heatwave on Wednesday that will go down in history for its early onset, duration and record temperatures.
