Weather. Thunderstorms: More than a thousand lightning strikes recorded in Côte-d'Or in two hours, the department on orange alert this Sunday

Météo France has placed Côte-d'Or on orange alert for thunderstorms starting at midnight this Sunday. This Saturday morning, significant electrical activity swept through parts of the department. This spectacular deterioration brought with it a host of lightning strikes.
This Saturday, late morning, the north of Côte-d'Or was hit by thunderstorms. According to Keraunos , a website specializing in storm and tornado monitoring, more than 1,200 lightning strikes were recorded in the department's skies between 8 a.m. and noon. 800 of these occurred between 10 a.m. and 11 a.m. alone.
These figures make Côte-d'Or the second most affected department in France this Saturday, behind Gard.
It was the commune of Bure-les-Templiers, on the border with Haute-Marne, which recorded the greatest number of lightning flashes in its sky (60).
This stormy episode, which faded as the afternoon progressed, will not be the only one this weekend. Starting this Sunday, the north of the department will once again be the scene of significant stormy weather.
Due to upcoming thunderstorm activity, Météo France has placed Côte-d'Or on orange alert. This alert is in effect from midnight.
" Starting around 1-2 p.m. this Sunday, a fairly significant storm wave will affect the Côte-d'Or department," Météo France reports. This phenomenon will bring gusts of between 70 and 90 km/h, and even very occasionally as high as 120 km/h.
Localized small hailstorms are also expected.
