ZFE: the Lyon Metropolis will implement a new exemption

The Green Party president of the Lyon metropolitan area, Bruno Bernard, announced this Thursday that a new exemption would be put in place for Crit'Air 3 vehicles banned from the ZFE.
The Lyon Metropolitan Area is continuing to relax its Low Emission Zone (LEZ). While MPs voted to abolish it as part of the simplification law, Green Party President Bruno Bernard reiterated on June 20 that " appeals to the Council of State will remain possible " against its abolition.
The Green Party representative hopes that the latter will be maintained because he believes it is " bearing fruit " with " a significant reduction in pollution ." However, Bruno Bernard has agreed to relax it on September 1, 2025, according to the Metropolis.
Following the introduction of an exemption for shift workers affected by the ban on Crit'Air 3 vehicles as of January 1, 2025, the Green president of the Lyon metropolitan area is granting a new privilege to people living and working in the ZFE, as well as to those living outside but working there.
" For half the population, that is, those with a taxable income in the top five out of ten deciles, there will be a possible exemption for Crit'Air 3 until January 1, 2028 ," he said. " To date, 51,000 "low-mileage" exemptions and 5,000 "offset schedule" exemptions have been granted ," the Metropolis said in a press release.
The exemption will be available to people who:
- Have a job, are looking for work or are in integration;
- Live or work in one of the 5 municipalities of the ZFE (Lyon, Villeurbanne, Bron, Caluire-et-Cuire, Vénissieux);
- Use a Crit'Air 3 vehicle for their daily journeys;
- Have a reference tax income per share of less than €16,300.
