Health authorities issue an amber alert in England due to a heat wave.

Health authorities issue an amber alert in England due to a heat wave.

London, June 19 (EFE) - British health authorities have issued an amber alert (the second-to-last alert on the scale, before red) for the heat wave that will hit England until next Monday.

The UK Health and Safety Agency (UKHSA) has issued this warning for all English regions, but not for Wales, Scotland, and Northern Ireland, from 12:00 local time (11:00 GMT) today until 09:00 (08:00 GMT) next Monday the 23rd.

The alert implies that "significant impacts on health and social care services are likely due to high temperatures," and include increased mortality, especially among those over 65 and those who are ill, excessive energy demand, and longer wait times at health centers.

The UKHSA has given this heatwave a risk score of 12 out of 16, considering it to have a "medium" impact, and deeming the likelihood of it occurring as "high."

The Met Office forecasts temperatures will exceed 30 degrees for the first time this year, especially around London, although highs along the coast may be lower.

For the Met Office to declare a heatwave, temperatures must exceed a threshold for three consecutive days, ranging from 25 degrees in the north and west of the United Kingdom to 28 degrees in the east of England.

High temperatures are expected to bring a respite from the high temperatures on Saturday in the north and west of the country, which will experience thunderstorms and showers. However, the east will see the peak of the heat wave, between 30 and 33 degrees Celsius. EFE
