The EU's LIFE program is the environmental figure of the week in EFEverde's Sustainable Planet.

Madrid, Jul 17 (EFEverde).– The #EnvironmentalPerson of the week, in the new edition of EFEverde's Sustainable Planet newsletter, is the European Union's LIFE Programme , recognized for its key role in financing more than 5,500 environmental projects since 1992. This initiative, now at risk of being diluted by other community funds, has been essential in promoting concrete actions in conservation, climate adaptation and environmental governance.
The new edition of Sustainable Planet , published this Wednesday, July 24, comes in a week marked by important news about the climate crisis, biodiversity and ecological transition :
Climate crisis and international justiceThe International Court of Justice (ICJ) has ruled that failure to comply with climate commitments is an internationally wrongful act , opening the door to reparations for affected countries. It also emphasized that climate change treaties entail binding legal obligations for signatory states, particularly with regard to preventing significant damage to the environment.
Among the most worrying data included in the edition are:

Fires have released an annual average of 1.4 million tons of CO₂ over the past decade.
