Orlen's competitor signed a contract for the supply of oil from the East

As stated in a press release from MOL Group, the two companies have been cooperating since 2004. The companies concluded their latest agreement on joint projects in Kazakhstan at the end of 2024. The latest crude oil supply contract is another step towards strengthening the security of crude oil supplies in the Central and Eastern European region.
Kazakh oil plays a key role in the MOL Group's supply diversification programA CPC (Caspian Pipeline Consortium) crude oil shipment arrived from the port of Novorossiysk in Omišalj, Croatia. It contained 85,000 tons of CPC blend, consisting primarily of Kazakh crude oil, supplementing the region's seaborne supply. Kazakh crude oil plays a key role in MOL Group's supply diversification program , being one of 14 crude grades already tested at the Bratislava refinery and regularly imported to the region.
"MOL Group has been working for over a decade to improve the Adria pipeline and its associated infrastructure, increase the flexibility of refining technologies, and create new, reliable supply routes. An integral part of this process is the search for reliable suppliers and high-quality alternative crude oil grades. We are pleased to be strengthening our cooperation with our Kazakh partners, with whom we have a successful relationship spanning over two decades. Our latest agreement is an important step for the entire Central and Eastern European region and an expression of our belief in reliable, honest partnerships and the continuous search for new solutions," said Gabriel Szabó, Executive Vice President, Downstream, MOL Group, in a press release.
In late 2024, MOL and KMG signed an agreement, entering into strategic cooperation in hydrocarbon exploration and production , technology transfer, and the supply of crude oil and petrochemical products. Last year's agreement focused on expanding existing cooperation in exploration and production (MOL, KMG, and China's Sinopec jointly produce gas and gas condensate at the Rozhkovskoye field) and implementing MOL's technology in Kazakhstan.
The current trade agreement further increases the security of oil supplies to Central and Eastern Europe.
MOL Group also recently signed a trade agreement with MVM to import 160,000 tons of Azerbaijani crude oil annually, representing 1.5% of MOL's refinery throughput. As with Kazakhstan, MOL Group has been using Azerbaijani crude oil for several years: in 2020, the company acquired a stake in the Azeri-Chirag-Gunashli (ACG) oil field, from which it supplied 5 million barrels of crude oil to the region last year.
