PGE offshore wind farm receives important decision

- PGE assures that Baltica 1 with a capacity of 0.9 GW is another project in which it wants to engage Polish suppliers and jointly build the Polish value chain.
- Baltica 1 will be located approximately 80 km north of the Polish Baltic Sea coast, near Władysławowo. The farm's capacity is expected to be 0.9 GW.
- There are increasing voices in the energy community that energy from the so-called second phase of offshore wind farm development projects will be too expensive.
"Receiving the environmental decision for the Baltica 1 project is an important step towards achieving the goal set in the PGE Group Strategy of achieving at least 4 GW of installed offshore wind capacity by 2035. This decision allows us to submit the project to the offshore auction planned for this year. This is a clear signal to the market that the development of offshore wind energy in Poland is gaining momentum, and domestic companies have a real opportunity to actively participate in this process," said Dariusz Marzec, CEO of PGE Polska Grupa Energetyczna.

He assures that Baltica 1 with a capacity of 0.9 GW is another project in which PGE wants to engage Polish suppliers and jointly build the Polish value chain.
PGE Baltica, the company responsible for the implementation of offshore wind energy projects within the PGE Group, conducted comprehensive environmental studies before issuing the decision on environmental conditions.
These studies allowed for a thorough understanding of the marine natural resources, not only in terms of their geological structure and the physicochemical parameters of the water and bottom sediments, but also in terms of the organisms present in the study area: plants and animals inhabiting the seabed, as well as fish, birds, and mammals, including bats. All of this was done to minimize the impact on the natural environment both during construction and during the project's subsequent long-term operation.
The research work and preparation of the report were carried out by a consortium of Polish contractors: Gdynia Maritime University and the MEWO company, specializing in marine environment measurements.
Geotechnical and geological studies already carried outBaltica 1, with an installed capacity of approximately 0.9 GW, is being developed by the PGE Group and, if it wins the contract for difference in this year's auction, will be commissioned by the end of 2032.
Baltica 1 will be located approximately 80 km north of the Polish Baltic Sea coast, in the Central Bank region, near Władysławowo . The project already has a location permit and a connection agreement.
The future Baltica 1 offshore wind farm has already completed geotechnical and geological surveys on sea and land, as well as measurements of wind, sea currents and waves.
It is not yet known whether the auctions for further offshore wind farm projects scheduled for December 2025 will take place . There are increasing concerns in the energy community that energy from the so-called second phase of offshore wind farm development projects will be too expensive.
By 2035, PGE plans to build, together with its partners, wind farms with a capacity of at least 4 GW , which will provide clean energy to 7.5 million households and reduce CO2 emissions by 11 million tons.
The most advanced of PGE's projects, the 1.5 GW Baltica 2 farm, is scheduled to be commissioned in 2027. This investment is being carried out in cooperation with the Danish company Ørsted.
