Águas do Algarve wins two national awards for environmental sustainability

Águas do Algarve was distinguished with two awards in the 3rd edition of the Essência do Ambiente 2025 Awards , a nationwide initiative that rewards projects with the greatest positive environmental impact, innovation and commitment to sustainability in Portugal.

Among more than 500 projects in the competition, distributed across five categories, Águas do Algarve stood out with: the campaign “Water is Life, don’t waste it”, which won an award in the Environmental Awareness category; and “Water and the Sea for Me”, which won the Social and Environmental Responsibility category.

The awards ceremony took place on Friday, June 6, in the Vila Flor Palace Gardens, in Guimarães, and its main novelty was the fact that the winners were selected by public vote, involving thousands of participants from all over the country.

“This distinction, made by those who follow and value environmental work, has a special meaning for our entire team”, points out Águas do Algarve.

The categories proposed for the competition were four:

Environmental Education – Environmental education projects aimed at school audiences; Good Practices – Actions that promote environmental sustainability; Environmental Awareness – Environmental awareness actions aimed at the community;

Social and Environmental Responsibility – Actions carried out by companies or institutions that combine good environmental practices with social responsibility.

«These awards, which make us very proud, reinforce Águas do Algarve's commitment to the UN Sustainable Development Goals ( SDGs ),» according to the company, such as SDG 6, SDG 13, SDG 14 and SDG 4.

Number 6, related to Drinking Water and Sanitation, through the promotion of efficient use of water and the valorization of the resource. Number 13, Climate Action, by raising awareness of the urgency of protecting water resources in the face of climate change. Number 14, Protecting Marine Life, strengthening the link between freshwater and marine ecosystems, namely through the project “Water and the Sea for Me”. And, finally, number 4, Quality Education, with educational programs that promote environmental literacy from childhood.

“Through communication, environmental education and community involvement, we continue to build a relationship of proximity and shared responsibility with the territory we serve. These two award-winning projects are proof of this: initiatives with real impact, carried out with soul, knowledge and commitment”, according to Águas do Algarve.

And he adds: «we would like to thank the organization of the Essência do Ambiente Awards-Essência – Complete Communication, Essência do Ambiente, with the support of Pro.com.imagem and Vitrus Ambiente — for the recognition and appreciation of good environmental practices in Portugal«.

These awards “reflect the commitment, creativity and collaborative work of the entire Águas do Algarve team. In particular, they recognise the strategic importance of communication and environmental education as fundamental pillars of our work. It is through proximity to the community, awareness raising and shared knowledge that we can promote behavioural changes, value water resources and inspire sustainable solutions”.
