Albufeira raised awareness among hundreds of children on World Environment Day

The Albufeira Municipal Auditorium hosted the “Saving is Earning” initiative, as part of the celebrations of World Environment Day, June 5, with the aim of raising awareness among 1st cycle students in the municipality's schools about the need to preserve the planet's resources.

The activity took place on Monday, June 9th, and brought together hundreds of students from several 1st cycle schools in the municipality, in an initiative organized by Albufeira City Council in partnership with Betweien .

Two actors took to the stage to lead an awareness-raising session on the importance of preserving planet Earth's resources.

The show told the story of Mariana, in a relentless search for ways to help Paco, the personification of planet Earth.

Throughout the session, the focus was placed on important areas for the preservation of land resources, such as saving water and energy, and also the separation of recyclable waste.

The intention was clear: to promote good practices in the use of resources, with the aim of reversing the planet's illness .

Throughout the play, there were several moments of interaction with the children. In addition to musical moments, there was also space for several rounds of questions to the audience about the correct use of resources.

José Carlos Rolo, Mayor of Albufeira, highlighted the importance of “involving young people in efforts to preserve the environment”.

For the mayor, "environmental education has already shown itself capable of promoting behavioral changes in children, and also in their families. We must continue to invest in education as a vehicle for change," he added.

The session was attended by several schools in the municipality, namely classes from EB1 da Guia, EB1 da Correeira, EB1 nº1 de Albufeira, EB1 de Vale Pedras, and EB1 dos Caliços.
