Meat exports reach 370,000 tons and grow in Mato Grosso

Meat exports reach 370,000 tons and grow in Mato Grosso

Beef accounted for the majority of exports in the first half of the year, with 307.4 thousand tons shipped.

Mato Grosso exported 371,700 tons of beef, pork, and poultry in the first half of 2025, a 5.46% increase compared to the same period the previous year. The data, released by the Economic Data Center of the Secretariat of Economic Development (Sedec), is based on information from the Secretariat of Foreign Trade (Secex).

According to the Mato Grosso Meatpacking Industry Union (Sindifrigo), this year's export performance reinforces the importance of the meatpacking industry to the state's economy, both in terms of revenue generation and job creation. The sector is responsible for approximately 30,000 direct jobs and almost 100,000 indirect jobs throughout the state.

For Sindifrigo president Paulo Bellicanta, the figures demonstrate the sector's consolidation in the foreign market and reflect the investments made by the industry in recent years.

"Mato Grosso's meatpacking sector is well-established in the international market, with a strong presence in Asia and the Middle East. Even with a slight decline in cattle slaughter, we were able to increase our revenue thanks to strong commercial performance and buyer confidence in our sanitary quality. This reflects investments in technology, traceability, and professionalization throughout the production chain," stated Bellicanta.

China leads beef purchases

Beef accounted for the majority of exports in the semester, with 307.4 thousand tons shipped, an increase of 6.1% compared to the same period in 2024.

China remained the top destination, accounting for 48% of exports and generating revenue of US$719 million. Next in line are the United States, Chile, Russia, and Egypt.

In the pork segment, Mato Grosso exported 15,500 tons, a 12.5% increase compared to last year. The Philippines, China, Hong Kong, Vietnam, and Albania are among the main buyers.

Poultry meat exports saw a slight drop of 0.62%, but maintained strong revenue performance. Saudi Arabia, China, and Japan led the way, with revenues of US$38 million, US$16 million, and US$9.6 million, respectively.
