Minister presents project for the New São Francisco Waterway

With the potential to move up to 5 million tons per year, the initiative will connect the Northeast to the Center-South of the country

The Minister of Ports and Airports, Silvio Costa Filho, will participate, this Friday (13), in the institutional presentation of the New São Francisco Waterway (HN-500), in the auditorium of the Nilo Coelho Foundation, in Petrolina (PE). The event marks another step in the consolidation of one of the most important logistics projects for the flow of cargo and regional development of the country.

With 1,371 km of navigable length between Pirapora (MG) and Juazeiro/BA – Petrolina/PE, the waterway will expand the country's logistics capacity in a more sustainable and efficient way. In the first stage of the project, it will be possible to move up to 5 million tons per year of cargo such as grains, ore and gypsum. The initiative also foresees integration with strategic railways, such as FIOL and Ferrovia Centro-Atlântica, favoring access to the ports of Aratu (BA) and other regions.
