Paratins Airport expects 20 thousand passengers during Folklore Festival

Paratins Airport expects 20 thousand passengers during Folklore Festival

Terminal undergoes special operation and is part of the AmpliAR Program for modernization and concession

Júlio Belém Airport is preparing for a special operation during the city's 58th Folklore Festival, one of the country's largest cultural events. Between June 25 and July 1, more than 20,000 passengers are expected to pass through the terminal. The record number represents an increase of almost 12% compared to the same period in 2024, when 17,882 passengers used the airport. Located 370 kilometers from Manaus, the city has around 102,000 inhabitants.

The significant increase in traffic requires reinforced infrastructure and even more efficient operations. For the National Secretary of Civil Aviation, Tomé Franca, Parintins plays a strategic role in the development of the North region, driven by its tourism potential. “Investing in the airport’s infrastructure has a direct impact on the growth of the city and the entire region, as it allows us to offer better quality services to those who use the air terminal, in addition to strengthening tourism as a driver of economic and social development,” Franca highlighted.

Parintins airport will be included in the first phase of the AmpliAR Program, an initiative by the Ministry of Ports and Airports (MPor) that provides for the transfer of management of regional airports to the private sector, through a simplified and competitive model. The concessionaires that win the lots in the auction scheduled for 2025 will be able to incorporate these assets into their contracts, with compensation such as the extension of the concession terms.

The expectation is that the new model will stimulate continuous investment in the modernization of airport infrastructure, improve the quality of services provided and promote greater integration of regional aviation into the national air network.

Tourism

During the Festival, a period in which Parintins becomes the epicenter of Amazonian culture, the airport intensifies its operations to welcome tourists from all regions of Brazil and abroad. For the airport manager, Jean Jorge Rodrigues, investments in the terminal go beyond the technical aspect.

“Every year, passenger movement grows significantly. Investing in the full operation of the airport is essential not only to ensure the safety of those boarding and disembarking, but also to boost tourism, which drives the local economy and guarantees employment and income for many families in Parintins,” he said.

Regional aviation on the rise

The increase in air demand in Parintins follows the expansion of regional aviation in Brazil. In 2024, the terminal registered more than 40,000 passengers — a growth of 3.1% compared to the 38,875 registered in 2023, according to data from the Demand and Supply Report of the National Civil Aviation Agency (ANAC).

For the Festival period, the air network will be reinforced with the support of Infraero, the National Civil Aviation Agency (Anac), airlines and other Federal Government agencies, ensuring that the terminal operates safely, quickly and efficiently in view of the increase in passenger flow.
