Port workers announce national demonstration against legal framework

Port workers announce national demonstration against legal framework

Demonstrations take place in port cities; category calls for exclusivity for casual workers

Port workers' unions are holding a demonstration this Friday (13) in all port cities in the country against Bill 733/2025, the new legal framework for the port sector. The protests will take place in the morning. The demonstration is part of the mobilization calling for a national strike in ports against the bill. The strike has not yet been defined, but the expectation is that it could happen as early as next week.

In Santos, the city that houses the largest port complex in Brazil, the demonstration is taking place in front of the headquarters of the Port Authority of Santos (APS). The category's main demand is related to the continuation of exclusivity for casual port workers.

The mobilization was sparked after a special committee was created in the Chamber of Deputies to discuss the New Ports Law at the end of May. Workers saw the movement as a way to speed up approval of the original text of the bill, without ensuring dialogue with all parties involved in the project. If the strike is confirmed, following the schedule of the last stoppages against Bill 733, it should last 18 hours.
