Public consultation receives suggestions for sustainable transport plan

Public consultation receives suggestions for sustainable transport plan

The proposal envisages decarbonization actions by 2050 and is open to public participation until August 18th.

The public consultation on the Sectoral Transport Mitigation Plan began this Monday (28). The document establishes guidelines and goals for the sector's transition towards a low-carbon economy, focusing on reducing greenhouse gas emissions in air and water transport by 2050.

The Ministry of Ports and Airports (MPor) participated in developing the plan, in partnership with the Ministry of Transportation (MT). The work involved technical departments within the ministry, such as the National Secretariats of Civil Aviation, Ports, Waterways, and Navigation, as well as the Sustainability Directorate, with support from regulatory agencies.

Coordinated by the Ministry of the Environment and Climate Change (MMA) and the Interministerial Committee on Climate Change, the initiative brings together 19 federal agencies and is part of the National Mitigation Strategy (ENM) and the Climate Plan.

The plan's main pillars include expanding the use of sustainable fuels, electrifying fleets and infrastructure, and encouraging less polluting modes of transport, such as railways, waterways, and coastal shipping.

The public can participate in the public consultation until August 18th through the Brasil Participativo platform. The full content of the plan is available on the Ministry of the Environment website: https://www.gov.br/mma/pt-br/composicao/smc/plano-clima/plano-clima-mitigacao/plano-clima-mitigacao .
