Azerbaijani and Turkish Energy Ministers Visit Production Site

Azerbaijani Energy Minister Parviz Shahbazov and Turkish Energy Minister Alparslan Bayraktar, who were in Izmir as part of the "Turkey and Azerbaijan 4th Energy Forum", visited the production facilities of Petkim and STAR Refinery, two of SOCAR Türkiye's group companies, in Aliağa, Izmir.

During the visit hosted by SOCAR President Rovshan Najaf, SOCAR Türkiye's production facilities, which are of strategic importance to the economies of Azerbaijan and Turkey, were visited. Discussions focused on the significant roles of Azerbaijan and Türkiye in the energy sector, the comprehensive cooperation between the two countries, and SOCAR's new investment plans in Türkiye.

During the meetings, the value of Petkim's 60 years of experience for our country and our sector was emphasized, and its strong global position as Türkiye's first and only integrated petrochemical facility was discussed. The strategic importance of the STAR Refinery, which contributes to Petkim's production journey by providing reliable and high-quality naphtha supplies and has an annual crude oil processing capacity of 13 million tons, was also highlighted.

The visit to SOCAR Türkiye's campus on the Aliağa Peninsula, home to key subsidiaries such as Petkim and STAR Refinery and Türkiye's first "Special Industrial Zone," hosted ministers from both countries, as well as state officials from Azerbaijan and Türkiye. Also present at the visit were Muhtar Babayev, Presidential Representative for Climate Affairs; Orhan Zeynalov, Deputy Minister of Energy of Azerbaijan; Narmina Mustafayeva, Consul General of Azerbaijan in Istanbul; Zafer Demircan, Deputy Minister of Energy and Natural Resources of Turkey; Ahmet Özkaya, General Manager of Energy Affairs; Öztürk Selvitop, General Manager of Foreign Relations; Abdülvahit Fidan, General Manager of BOTAŞ; Orhan Kaldırım, General Manager of TEİAŞ; and Ahmet Türkoğlu, General Manager of Turkish Petroleum Distribution.
