£63 million move to switch to electric vehicles

The UK Government has announced a new incentive package worth £63 million to promote electric vehicle adoption and strengthen charging infrastructure across the country.
This comprehensive investment plan focuses particularly on the conversion of homes without garages or driveways and utility fleets.
EQUALITY IN CHARGING ACCESS: SUPPORT FOR HOMES WITHOUT DRIVEWAYSThe £25 million package will be dedicated to providing safe and affordable home charging for properties without a driveway. The new system will connect vehicles directly to homes via dedicated cables running under the pavement.
"We're making the transition to electric vehicles accessible to everyone. Whether you have a garage or not, everyone should benefit from this transformation," said Transport Minister Heidi Alexander.
PUBLIC CHARGING NETWORK IS EXPANDING RAPIDLYAccording to current data, there are more than 82,000 public charging points across the UK. The government aims to add 100,000 new stations through the Local EV Infrastructure Fund and private sector investment.
Additionally, fast charging infrastructure on highways and main roads will be improved with an additional budget of £400 million.
ELECTRIC CONVERSION IN THE NHS VEHICLE FLEETHighlighting the economic benefits of switching to electric vehicles for public institutions, the government has allocated a dedicated £8 million fund for the National Health Service (NHS). This fund will enable the vehicle fleets of more than 200 facilities to be converted to electric.
It is anticipated that this change will save up to £120 million annually in maintenance and fuel costs, freeing up more resources for patient care services.
1,200 new charging points coming to healthcare facilitiesMore than 1,200 new charging stations are also planned to support the NHS's electric vehicle transition. Government officials say this will not only reduce carbon emissions but also accelerate the transition to a modern, environmentally friendly, and affordable healthcare system.
GREEN EMPLOYMENT AND DOMESTIC PRODUCTION IN FOCUSThis support package aims to promote green employment, increase production with domestic resources and achieve net zero emissions targets within the framework of the British government's "Plan for Change".
Electric conversion is supported not only for individual vehicles but also for sectors such as warehouses, logistics centers, buses, minibuses, and heavy vehicles. New grant programs will also be implemented for businesses operating in this sector.
