RUSAL Announces New Climate Strategy

Global aluminum giant RUSAL has shared its new climate strategy, expanding its 2035 vision to include the 2050 targets . The company has accelerated its efforts toward decarbonization and outlined a sustainable roadmap encompassing all of its operational areas.
RUSAL has set more ambitious targets for its foundry and production facilities to reduce greenhouse gas emissions . Its updated climate strategy aims to neutralize carbon emissions across a broad production chain, from bauxite mining and aluminum casting to alumina refining and final product production.
The new strategy will increase energy efficiency and introduce the best technologies . In particular, by transforming electrolysis production with inert anode technology, environmental impact will be minimized. At the same time, secondary raw materials will be recycled and production processes will be restructured in line with circular economy principles.
The climate strategy, approved by the RUSAL Board of Directors on June 30, 2025, fully aligns with the latest standards set by the Aluminum Management Initiative (ASI) . All facilities within the ASI scope aim to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050. For facilities outside the scope of certification, the target of carbon neutrality by 2060 aligns with Russia's national strategic plan.
RUSAL Sustainability Director Irina Bakhtina stated that the strategy represents a major step not only in terms of environmental but also economic sustainability. She emphasized the company's climate leadership by stating, "We are working on green financing mechanisms , reducing emissions , and investing in environmentally friendly technologies that will increase our competitiveness."
RUSAL accounted for 5.5% of global aluminum production and 3.8% of global alumina production in 2023. The company's shares, traded on the Hong Kong and Moscow stock exchanges , reinforce international confidence. Operating in 12 countries across five continents, RUSAL maintains its leadership in global low-carbon aluminum production .
