Russia's coal production increases, electricity production decreases

Energy Diary - According to the data of the Federal State Statistics Service (Rosstat), Russia's coal production in January-April 2025 will increase by 2.4% compared to the same period of the previous year, reaching 147 million tons. During this period, the production of all types of coal increased by 1.1%, reaching 112 million tons.
Anthracite production decreased by 2.4% to 7.5 million tons, coking coal production decreased by 8% to 34.7 million tons. Lignite production increased by 7% to 35.1 million tons.
ELECTRICITY PRODUCTION DECLINED
According to the data, electricity production in Russia in January-April 2025 will decrease by 2% annually, falling to 423 billion kWh. On the other hand, electricity production in April 2025 will amount to 96 billion kWh, which is 0.8% more than in the same period last year.
