TPAO's exploration licenses in Thrace have been extended for two years.

Energy Diary - The Turkish Petroleum Corporation (TPAO) will continue its oil exploration activities under two separate onshore licenses in the Thrace Region. The Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources' General Directorate of Mining and Petroleum Affairs (MAPEG) evaluated and decided on TPAO's deadline extension applications submitted in July 2025.
The deadline for both licenses has been extended to 2027.
According to MAPEG's decisions dated October 9, 2025, the term of two oil exploration licenses held by TPAO was extended until September 23, 2027, effective September 23, 2025. The decisions were made in accordance with the relevant articles of Turkish Petroleum Law No. 6491. The extension was stated to be made to uncover the region's hydrocarbon potential and contribute to the national economy.
The searches cover over 37,000 hectares.
The first of the extended licenses is the exploration license, numbered AR/TPO/K/F20-d3, d4, covering the provinces of Istanbul and Tekirdağ and covering 15,04 hectares. The second license, numbered AR/TPO/K/F19-d2, d3, covering 22,112 hectares within the provincial borders of Tekirdağ, has been registered. This grants TPAO the right to continue exploration in the region for a total of 37,116 hectares for another two years.
