Apple supports solar and wind farms in Central and Eastern Europe

The US technology company is supporting renewable energy projects in Greece, Italy, Latvia, Poland and Romania through long-term Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs) to “cover the electricity used by European customers to charge and operate their Apple devices.”
In Greece, the company has signed a long-term agreement to procure power from the 110 MW solar plant in Kozani owned and operated by HELLENiQ ENERGY.
In Poland, it helped the development of Israeli-based Econergy’s 40 MW solar plant, which is expected to become operational later this year. Apple entered into a 19-year virtual Power Purchase Agreement (PPA), which will purchase approximately 75 per cent of the electricity generated.
In Romania, Apple plans to purchase electricity under a long-term agreement from a 99 MW wind farm developed by Nala Renewables in Galați County, currently being constructed by OX2.
In Latvia, it signed one of the country’s first corporate power purchase agreements with European Energy. The long-term deal will secure electricity from a 110 MW solar farm currently under construction in Latvia.
In Italy, Apple is supporting the development of a 129 MW portfolio of solar and wind projects. The first project – a solar plant in Sicily – will come online later this month.
Apple also supported the development of a 131 MW solar plant in the Segovia region of Spain, which became operational earlier this year.
The energy required to charge and operate Apple devices accounted for approximately 29 per cent of the company’s total greenhouse gas emissions in 2024.
