Gniezno strikes hot prospects with new geothermal well

Poland’s historic capital, Gniezno finished its GT-1 geothermal well after two years, the city stated. The project was fully funded by a 15.8 million zloty (3,7 million euro) state grant. The well is more than two kilometres deep, and its 75.5 Celsius degree water is optimal for heating despite its high mineral content. The new well can also support spas or recreational uses.
“I’m thrilled to announce we’ve completed the first stage of a vital investment for Gniezno—building the GT-1 geothermal well,” said Mayor Michał Powałowski. “We’ve confirmed hot water resources that could power city heating and serve residents for recreation or health purposes. This is an investment in clean, renewable energy and Gniezno’s future.”
The project ranked second nationally in Poland’s “Providing Access to Thermal Waters” program. “The Ministry supports and will continue to promote thermal geothermal development nationwide,” added Minister of Climate and Environment Paulina Hennig-Kloska.” We see huge regional opportunities here.”
