Ørsted's Hornsea 3 faces potential setback after factory strike threat
Ørsted might face challenges with the construction of the Hornsea 3 offshore wind farm project after employees at the SeAH Wind factory in Teesside in north-east England, a major supplier to the project, voted in favor of strike action.
The employees, members of the GMB labor union, voted 96% in favor of strike action, according to industry media Recharge News, citing a comment from the union.
The vote gives them a six-month window to begin strike action. The factory supplies foundations for the Hornsea 3 project.
The Hornsea 3 project will have a total capacity of 2.9GW, making it Ørsted’s largest globally. The project is scheduled for completion by the end of 2027.
However, the union representing the employees will initially attempt to resume talks with management at the SeAH Wind factory, where employees have recently rejected a 3.1% pay rise, according to Recharge News.
