Peru’s largest solar plant powers up

Zelestra has officially launched full commercial operations at the 300 MWSan Martín solar plant in La Joya, Arequipa, marking a major milestone in Peru’s renewable energy journey.

Delivered in under 18 months, the San Martín project is now the largest solar facility in the country.

Built by Zelestra’s in-house engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) team, the plant includes 450,000 solar modules and is expected to produce 830 GWh of clean energy annually—enough to power more than 440,000 homes.

At its construction peak, the project supported 900 jobs and will now prevent more than 166,000 tonnes of CO₂ emissions each year.

Energy generated from San Martín will be supplied to Kallpa Generación through a long-term power purchase agreement (PPA), helping to diversify Peru’s energy sources.

Leo Moreno, CEO of Zelestra, said: “The successful delivery of San Martín reinforces our commitment to a customer-first approach. We are proud to see the most ambitious solar project in Peru now fully operational, and look forward to a long-term partnership with Kallpa.”

Zelestra has 7 GW of solar and battery energy storage systems (BESS) in its Latin American pipeline, with 1.7 GW already contracted across Peru, Chile and Colombia.

The company was recently named one of the top 10 global corporate clean energy sellers by BloombergNEF and ranked second in Europe, the Middle East and Asia.
