Power demand surges in June with 2.42 lakh MW peak, grid supplies 1.5 lakh MU
The daily average peak demand met in June was 2,22,816.57 MW, reflecting a consistently high load pattern across the country throughout the month.
New Delhi: India’s electricity demand touched a high of 2,42,493 MW on June 12, 2025, while total electricity supplied during the month stood at 1,50,048.68 million units (MU), according to data released by the National Load Dispatch Centre (NLDC).The daily average peak demand met in June was 2,22,816.57 MW, reflecting a consistently high load pattern across the country throughout the month. The country met peak loads of above 2.3 lakh MW on at least 9 days in June, with demand remaining elevated due to seasonal consumption pressures and sustained industrial activity. The maximum energy met in a single day was recorded on June 12, when 5,168.28 MU was supplied across India, coinciding with the highest peak demand day.The NLDC data for June 2025 confirms the increasing load being managed by the national grid amid growing electrification and rising power consumption. Daily energy met ranged from 4,757.57 MU on June 1 to 5,168.28 MU on June 12, averaging 5,001.6 MU per day across the month. The country’s power demand has been steadily climbing in recent years. The peak demand in May 2025 had reached 2,39,931 MW, with energy met of 1,54,858.32 MU, showing a slight dip in June on account of fewer days and marginally lower daily loads. The data also indicates steady performance in grid balancing, with the peak demand consistently met and daily energy dispatch showing minimal variations despite the high load days.India’s national power demand continues to track upwards, with rising cooling load, commercial activity, and rural electrification contributing to a broader increase in grid requirement.
