EU Energy Commissioner calls for more gas imports from the USA

EU Energy Commissioner Dan Jorgensen is calling for more gas imports from the US to Europe. "We are obviously still dependent on Russian gas. This is unsustainable for political, security, and moral reasons," the Danish politician told the portal "Table.Briefings" in a statement on Sunday. This gives Russia the opportunity to "continue to use energy as a weapon." Indirectly, it also means "that we are co-financing Putin's war."
Europe will completely phase out Russian gas, Jorgensen said. To achieve this, gas consumption will be reduced and liquefied natural gas (LNG) will be sourced from the USA. "I firmly believe that there are opportunities to import even more gas from the USA. I think we have reason to be grateful, because without the USA and especially Norway, but also other countries, we would not have been able to reduce our dependence on Russian gas so much." He is also examining simplifications in European energy law. However, the Commission will not do anything that would set back the ecological transition.
