EVN invests 775 million euros in drinking water supply in Lower Austria

EVN will invest approximately €775 million in the drinking water supply in Lower Austria by 2055. "This includes approximately €400 million for new facilities with 150 projects, and approximately €375 million for the renovation of existing facilities," said CEO Stefan Stallinger on Monday. The focus is on regional balancing, as supra-regional supply structures are necessary.

A 60-kilometer-long transmission pipeline from Krems to Zwettl will go into operation this fall. It was built at a cost of €50 million. The expansion program includes the revitalization of the Petroneller Au and a new Danube crossing between the Industrieviertel and Weinviertel regions. "Other priorities include the development of new well fields and the construction of new natural filtration systems. In addition, we are building approximately 280 kilometers of new transmission pipelines and additional storage facilities with a volume of approximately 26,500 cubic meters," announced Franz Dinhobl, Managing Director of EVN Water.

State Vice President Stephan Pernkopf (ÖVP) also emphasized the need for supra-regional transport pipelines. However, there was a positive outlook regarding drinking water supplies. "Even if water demand increases by a quarter over the next three decades, we will still have more than twice as much water available in 2055 as we actually need: 394 million cubic meters of demand, with a supply of 855 million cubic meters."
