Gas 175 euros cheaper per year

Tigas is reducing its gas price in July, and the extent of the reduction has now been determined. Households are expected to save an average of around 15 euros per month.
It had been known for some time that Tigas would reduce its gas price in July – TT reported on it several times. Exactly how much it would go down was previously unclear, but now it's confirmed. Specifically, Tigas announced that it will reduce the pure gas working price by approximately 16 percent, from 7.22 cents/kWh gross to 6.05 cents/kWh gross (5.04 cents net).
With an average annual household consumption of 15,000 kWh, this would result in a cost reduction of approximately €175 gross per year, or approximately €15 per month. With the new energy price, Tigas is currently the most affordable regional energy supplier in Austria, emphasizes Commercial Director Martin Grubhofer. "Despite the increases, particularly in fees and network charges, at the beginning of the year, this additional burden can now be more than offset by the energy price reduction on July 1st, and households' annual costs can be reduced," Grubhofer says.
The domestic economy and energy suppliers have high expectations ahead of the law announced in this year's government program to increase the use of renewable gases in the overall system. "Urgent impetus is needed to highlight the importance of gas in the context of decarbonization," says Technical Director Georg Tollinger.
The majority of biogas is converted into electricity, with only 15 of Austria's 300 biogas plants feeding into the gas grid. "There are no subsidies or legal incentives for feeding biogas and hydrogen into the grid," Tollinger criticizes. Converting surplus electricity into hydrogen and storing it could be an important measure to relieve and balance the electricity grids.
