Municipal utility on the way to the E-175 large-scale wind farm in 2028

Municipal utility on the way to the E-175 large-scale wind farm in 2028

The North Hessian renewable energy company Verbands-Energie-Werk (VEW), as a local partner, and the Aachen-based national municipal utility company Trianel plan to install a wind farm consisting of ten large-scale turbines of Enercon's flagship E-175 near Korbach by early 2028. According to the plans, a joint venture will connect the wind farm with a total generation capacity of 63 megawatts (MW) to the grid. Each of the turbines of Enercon's current flagship turbine type has a nominal output of 6.3 MW.

At 6.3 MW, the turbine type will significantly exceed the E-175's current rated output of 6.0 MW. Wind turbine manufacturer Enercon announced the commissioning of the prototype of a 7.0 MW E-175 variant at the beginning of April, following the company's announcement a year earlier that it would increase the E-175's rated output from six to seven MW. Among other things, the new variant will feature a new generator to achieve the higher output without increasing the turbine's weight. However, the project participants have not specified whether the North Hesse wind farm project consortium intends to use a slightly more powerful version of the first 6.0 MW E-175 variant or a special version of the turbine type with a 7.0 MW generator in the planned 63 MW project.

The wind farm is to be built in a forest damaged by storms and bark beetles between Korbach in the south and Paderborn in North Rhine-Westphalia in the north. The local VEW will receive a 51 percent share in the wind farm, which is planned to be known as the Rhoder Forst wind farm.
