Planning tip: Properly protect solar systems from lightning strikes

Roof lightning protection should not be underestimated. Solar panels, in particular, must be included in this process. Otherwise, the homeowner risks immense damage. But how should lightning protection be designed? How is the system integrated into the lightning protection system? What is the role of the mounting frame in dissipating the enormous currents generated by lightning?
Basics of lightning protectionDaniel Wagner from lightning protection expert Dehn , as well as Andreas Haller and Jens Helmich from Ernst Schweizer AG, answered all of these questions in a joint webinar with the photovoltaik editorial team. Andreas Haller first addressed the basics. Based on the applicable regulations, he demonstrated how to design a functioning lightning protection concept, including with a solar power system, and what technical solutions are available for this.
Practical implementation shownAndreas Haller then demonstrated the solution Ernst Schweizer AG has integrated into its MSP mounting system for flat roofs to ensure lightning current carrying capacity. Jens Helmich then demonstrated how the MSP mounting system is specifically integrated into a building's lightning protection concept and how this is taken into account in the Solar Pro Tool planning software.
