The most traditional grape harvest in first person

The month of September smells of grapes and grape harvest. Ribera del Duero, one of the key areas of Spanish viticulture, is immersed in the most magical and crucial time of the year for winemaking: the harvest. The grape harvest has already begun, and once again, one of the region's most innovative wineries, Cepa 21, invites you to experience it firsthand. Located in Castrillo de Duero (Valladolid), winemaker José Moro's project will hold a new edition of his successful Harvest Workshop, an activity for the whole family that immerses us in the most special period of the winemaking process and experiences it as it was done in the past. The program includes traditional grape treading and a tasting of some of the winery's most emblematic wines.

Tradition, culture, and fun come together in this unmissable event for wine lovers. The Harvest Workshop is just one of the many options in Cepa 21's wine tourism portfolio, which boasts a privileged location in the heart of Ribera del Duero and reflects the company's expertise and passion for the land. "With the Harvest Workshop, we want visitors to experience the essence of wine from its origin, in direct contact with the soil and the grapes. The grape harvest is the most magical time of the year, and with this initiative, we seek to share that emotion with our visitors; it's our way of opening the doors to Cepa 21. It's a unique experience that becomes a fond memory for everyone who experiences it. It's also the perfect reflection of the union of tradition and avant-garde that Bodegas Cepa 21 champions," explains José Moro.

Field day and tasting

The 2025 Harvest Workshop will take place from September 19th to October 12th (reservations are now available). This activity, open to all audiences, provides an insight into the work involved in the grape harvest. Attendees will be able to experience the harvest, while learning about the key aspects of the vineyard, how this process has evolved over the years, and what this period is like at Cepa 21.

The day will begin with a guided tour of the winery facilities; attendees will learn about the entire winemaking process, from reception to bottling. Afterward, they will head out into the vineyards. Once in the vineyard, a manual harvest will be carried out, followed by one of the most anticipated moments of the event: the treading of the grapes harvested in the traditional style, which will take attendees back to the historic method of winemaking. There will also be an opportunity for a tasting, where the winery's youngest reds, Hito and Cepa 21, will be presented. These will be paired with local products to showcase the rich gastronomy of the area.

The Harvest Workshop will be held from Friday to Sunday; it begins at 11:00 a.m. and lasts two hours. The price is €55 for adults and €15 for children. Although they won't be drinking wine, they can participate in the activity from the beginning and enjoy a snack with grape must at the end.
